Surfing is an extreme sport with origins in Peruvian, Polynesian and Hawaiian cultures. Known as the act of "riding" the ocean waves, its primitive form is a worldwide cultural expression, a ritual that honors the spiritual connection between man and the sea.
The first surfboards arrived in Portugal in the 1920s, brought by foreign visitors who saw the potential of the Atlantic waters to become a surfer's paradise. They found a relaxed atmosphere and unspoiled beaches, and surfing quickly became an integral part of Portuguese coastal culture. It was in the 1960s that the first Portuguese surfer, Pedro Martins de Lima, became known and is still considered the father of Portuguese surfing.

Our plaster piece aims to strengthen the Portuguese connection with the sea, paying homage to the origins of surfing and celebrating this rich and diverse sport.
